Simple Lentil Dal (Quick & Cheap)

🥘 Ingredients

  • 1 cup Red lentils (masoor dal)
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 Small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 tbsp Oil or ghee (use oil for vegan)
  • optional Fresh cilantro for garnish

📝 Instructions

  1. Rinse the lentils under water until clear.
  2. In a pressure cooker or pot, add lentils, water, turmeric, and salt. Cook on medium heat for 10-15 minutes (2-3 whistles in pressure cooker) until soft.
  3. In a separate pan, heat oil, add cumin seeds, onion, and garlic. Sauté until onions are golden (about 5 minutes).
  4. Mix the sautéed mixture into the cooked lentils. Simmer for 2 minutes.
  5. Garnish with cilantro if desired. Serve with rice or roti.
