Simple Lentil Dal (Quick & Cheap)
Vegan, protein-rich, beginner-friendly. Ready in 20 minutes for ~$1.50 per serving.
🥘 Ingredients
- 1 cup Red lentils (masoor dal)
- 3 cups Water
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 Small onion, finely chopped
- 2 Garlic cloves, minced
- to taste Salt
- 1 tbsp Oil or ghee (use oil for vegan)
- optional Fresh cilantro for garnish
📝 Instructions
- Rinse the lentils under water until clear.
- In a pressure cooker or pot, add lentils, water, turmeric, and salt. Cook on medium heat for 10-15 minutes (2-3 whistles in pressure cooker) until soft.
- In a separate pan, heat oil, add cumin seeds, onion, and garlic. Sauté until onions are golden (about 5 minutes).
- Mix the sautéed mixture into the cooked lentils. Simmer for 2 minutes.
- Garnish with cilantro if desired. Serve with rice or roti.
